Bake Sale for Children in Need
The staff team and young people at Douglas House are always looking for ways to help others and involve ourselves in the community. We wanted to do something good to help raise money for charity and decided to hold our own bake sale to raise funds for Children in Need.
Leaflets and posters were created, printed and delivered to all our neighbours and shops around the local area. Local businesses were asked to get involved and donate raffle prizes, which included Vue cinema tickets for two and a meal for two at the Guelder Rose Pub in Southport. We also asked for cake donations.
Requests were posted using the power of social media, to advertise on local community pages, which resulted in some generous donations from local businesses and many of our neighbours!
On the day of the sale, the staff and young people braved the cold and set up their stall in the front garden at Douglas House, displaying all the cakes and prizes they had to offer. Whilst setting up our ‘shop’ a number of neighbours kindly came to visit bearing gifts of cakes they had baked and some with even more welcome donations for the sale. Other neighbours came and introduced themselves, including those who shared stories of having lived at Douglas House when they were younger!
After selling lots of cakes, muffins, flapjacks, biscuits, cupcakes and lots of raffle tickets, the heavens opened, and we reluctantly had to pack away. We then went inside to do some counting and see what all our hard work had achieved and found we had raised almost £300.
All in all, we had a fantastic morning, with the highlight being the opportunity to meet some of our lovely neighbours.
