Young Person from Mulberry House Takes On Scafell Pike Charity Challenge
A young person from Mulberry House has recently completed an inspiring challenge that has captured the admiration of staff across New Horizons.
His achievement highlights determination, courage, and a genuine desire to help others, all qualities we are proud to see flourishing in our young people.A
Remarkable Goal with No Prior Experience
Despite having no previous hiking experience, he set himself the ambitious target of climbing Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. Standing at 978 metres, Scafell Pike is a significant undertaking for even experienced hikers, and the conditions on the day made the challenge even tougher. Battling cold winds, mist, and unpredictable weather, he continued to push himself forward, showing stamina and resilience throughout the ascent.
His motivation for tackling such a demanding challenge came from a cause that means a great deal to him, the RSPCA. He chose to dedicate his climb to raising funds for their work supporting, rescuing and caring for vulnerable animals. His determination to help others, particularly animals in need, added an extra layer of meaning and pride to the journey.
Support from Across New Horizons
One of the most uplifting elements of this achievement was the support he received from across New Horizons. From colleagues at Head Office to the dedicated team at Mulberry House, everyone pulled together to show their encouragement and to celebrate his commitment. Staff members contributed generously to his fundraising efforts, helping to raise money that will make a real difference to the RSPCA and the animals they protect.
This collective support reflects the strong sense of community we strive to build across New Horizons. When our young people take on challenges, pursue their goals or step outside their comfort zones, the enthusiasm and encouragement from staff plays a vital part in helping them succeed.
Growth, Confidence and Compassion
Taking on Scafell Pike is an extraordinary achievement, especially for someone stepping into the world of hiking for the very first time. This experience has helped build his confidence, strengthened his resilience, and demonstrated the incredible things young people can achieve when they feel supported, motivated and believed in.
Charity challenges like this offer far more than a physical test. They nurture compassion, create a sense of purpose and help young people recognise their own potential. For children and young people in residential care, these moments are powerful milestones that support emotional development, self-esteem and a belief in their ability to make a positive impact on the world around them.
A Message of Pride
“We are incredibly proud of this achievement. Taking on Scafell Pike with no previous hiking experience is no small feat, especially in difficult weather conditions. His determination and decision to raise money for the RSPCA shows real compassion and resilience, and it has been wonderful to see colleagues across the organisation come together to support him. We hope this is just the beginning of many more challenges and charity achievements in the future.”
This challenge stands as a wonderful reminder of what young people can accomplish when they are supported, encouraged and empowered. His success is something we celebrate not only for the achievement itself but for everything it represents, growth, courage and a heartfelt commitment to helping others.
